Mark Mobius: Emerging, Frontier Markets To Shine
These days, veteran investor Mark Mobius sees better growth prospects for emerging and frontier markets than developed ones. Rob Langston wrote in the FT Adviser (UK) website yesterday:
Franklin Templeton veteran manager Mark Mobius said investors in emerging market investment trusts would reap the benefits of the region’s strong outperformance in the longer term as developed markets continued to suffer.
Mr Mobius, manager of the Templeton Emerging Markets investment trust, said the outlook for the sector was “very positive”, particularly after the recent turmoil in western markets.
“While global growth has slowed, emerging markets are still expected to grow at a much faster rate than developed markets,” he said.
“Emerging markets as a whole are forecast to grow at an average of 4 per cent in 2010, which is 10 times faster than the average 0.4 per cent projected in developed markets.”
Mr Mobius said China and India were likely to lead growth in emerging markets, but added that there would be considerable growth in smaller frontier markets.
